Hi Guys, Here are a few pictures from the Wed. league

season that will start on Wednesday, Aug 15th. The games will be doubleheaders and will be played at the Des Moines fields.
I will send more info when they release the schedule specifics. Please let me know if you can not play in the extended

Skill of softball players doesn't necessarily have to diminish with age!

PALM BAY -- The Brevard Athletics softball team members may be over 60 but the spry
seniors have no intention of slowing down their game. "Our
goal is to be champions of our division in the Florida Half Century League," said s team captain, Roger Gibson. "We're
nice guys but we're going to be competitive." That
spirit fueled the team to victory at the 2007 Smash Tournament in Lakeland in May. The Brevard Athletics won the four-game
round robin with a 3-1 record in the 60-plus division. Hopes
are the victory will push the team to the next level. "The
Florida Half Century league tries to keep everybody on an even keel," Gibson said. "If you win three or four games,
they move you up to a higher bracket. It serves as an equalizer." Senior softball players must be at least 50 and present a certified copy of a birth certificate to register and
play. Experience on the field also is required for Brevard
Athletics team members. "You can't play in the
league as a beginner or if you haven't played for years because we're just too competitive," said Gibson. "We're
very serious and have a strong alliance among the players." Weekly
Saturday morning practice at Liberty Park in Palm Bay prepares the local softball players for the monthly tournaments held
around the state.
"We didn't play a
tournament in June because of injuries but usually the team plays every month," said Gibson.
The 63-year-old business manger himself had to take a break from play earlier this
year.
"I was at softball practice in February
and felt that something was just not right," Gibson said. "I ended up in the hospital with two heart stents."
But he is back at the plate and plans to continue
his playing streak well into the golden years.
"I've
played since I was a kid," Gibson said. "Softball keeps me alive and there's a lot of camaraderie." For information about the Brevard Athletics team or the Florida Half
Century League, contact Roger Gibson at 952-8983 or visit the group's Web site at www.floridahalfcentury.com

All
of us at one time or another have pitched batting practice. Most often, we do not use the pitching cage to protect us from
lines drives or block hard hit grounders. Check out this incredible video of a home run hitting contest, and, even though
the pitcher has a cage protector, he choose not to use it. Ouch! To be sure, it's a lessoned learned.

SENIOR SOFTBALL REUNITES OLD FRIENDS AFTER 40 YEARS: After 40 years an unexpected reunion took place in Wenatchee’s
Golden Sun annual tourney a few weeks back, between Don Melholff of ARO GLASS CLUBBERS, a team from the Aberdeen-Hoquiam

(bashbro2) who was playing with Jim's Auto Refinish out of Maple Valley, WA. Tad and Don actually played baseball together

*Actually, "5 on 5 on 5" is the most accurate label and
description. Three teams of 5 players each are required for each game. An inning consists of A) a team of 5 batters AT BAT,
plus--on the field playing defense--both B) a team made up of the pitcher plus four outfielders, and finally C) four infielders
and the catcher as the third team. Each team rotates, meaning the batting team goes the outfield after making 3 outs, the
outfielders move to the infield, and infielders come to bat.
