 1938  Merritt James SHERMAN (Jim) (Sherm) Jim Sherman, loyal husband,
devoted father and grandfather, died peacefully at home on March 25, 2010. Jim had battled cancer coura geously for the
past year. He was a friendly, helpful, caring man whom always had a warm smile and was loved by all. He will be dearly missed
by his wife Linda, son Ed Sherman (Chris), daughter Renee Craig (Tony), stepchildren Aaron Mehl and Ethan Mehl, Julli Mehl,
Bridget Barrington, Cassie Anderson and Morgan Anderson and 6 grandchildren and 8 step- grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He is also sur vived by his father Jim Sherman and sister Carol Kent (Jerry) and pre ceded in death by his mother Ina Sherman.
Jim was born in Seattle on August 4, 1938. He was devoted to public ser vice being a Seattle Firefighter and Fire Marshall
for 30 years, serving as an instructor of CPR, 1st Aid and AED for the past 18 years. He gradu ated from West Seattle High
School, where he was an athlete in many sports and continued playing and excelling in all sports including bas ketball,
golf and softball through the years. He played senior softball to the highest levels, being a member of teams winning many
prestigious tournaments including national and world titles. Jim's on field exploits earned him 13 coveted championship rings.
He had claimed his winning of 3 Grand Slam rings as his highest softball honor. Jim played his senior ball with W.E. Ruth
Realty, Eme rald City Masters and Joeseppi's where he was consistently a .800 average hitter and a member of the tournament's
All Star Teams. Jim was a Director and Safety Trainer for Senior Softball-USA and was the first player to be inducted into
their Hall of Fame last December at the 2009 National Convention in Nash ville Tennessee. When Jim was not on the field
playing the game he loved, you could probably find him umpiring in one of the other games. Sherm was eventually named National
Umpire and Chief for Senior Softball-USA. He left his umpiring position to become Senior Softball-USA's Safety and First
Aid Officer, a post which lead him to the formation of one of his greatest lega cies, the Heart Defibulator Pro gram. His
passion and teachings have already led to the saving of 4 lives on the softball field, through the use of a defibulator
by members of Jim's trained staff. To know Sherm was to love himhe made friends all over the world, with his quick smile
and easy going manner. His pres ence on this earth has truly made a difference. We will all miss him deeply. A service to
celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 24st, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 12817
SE 256th, Kent, WA 98030. In lieu of flowers re membrances may be made to the Charteris Foundation, PO Box 24766, Federal
Way, WA 98093. The founda tion for the Chaplin program supporting fire and police personnel. Interment will be at the Tahoma
National Cemetery at a later date.
