We have lost two lifelong Renton
softball players who were not only multi talented
athletes, but great
individuals and friends…(1)
a slow pitch player who was playing
Senior ball and (1) a
fast pitch player who was inducted into the Northwest ASA Region 15 Hall
of Fame. Kurk Kauzlarich
played slow pitch softball in Renton for
a number of teams….Main Street ; Coaches
Corner and Benson Reality to name a few. He also played basketball and was active in coaching for
a number of years. He re-started his Senior career
with Doffers. Gordy Neilson was active in basketball and
fast pitch softball in the 1950’s
and early 60’s…played
on national caliber AAU
basketball teams and once held Elgin Baylor
to only 35 points. As a fast pitch 3rd
baseman he played for the Renton Cowboys : Renton
Jets and was an original member of Federal O’Line
which later became Pay & Pack. With Federal he traveled the US and
Canada playing in tournaments and held the ASA National
Tournament for Home Runs until it was broken in the late 60’s.
He was inducted into the Northwest Softball Hall of Fame in 1975.
He was also an avid golfer.
