Mr. Kilby was "one of a kind!" Unique! He had an energy about him that was contagious to those of us that he coached. He had so much passion for the game of softball and coaching. He instilled in each of us the importance of working hard, and he wanted us to know what it felt like to be a winner! I loved his competitiveness, and his no "B.S." attitude. I respect the fact that he would always demonstrate for us exactly what he wanted us to do. He was perfectly capable of doing anything that he expected us to do! I loved that!
Mr. Kilby was such a positive role model in my life. I will forever be grateful for everything that he taught me, and I feel honored to have been coached by him. He was a class act. Thank you Mr. Kilby for always sticking up for us girls, and for being the best softball coach ever! I will never forget you.
Thank you Jill for sharing Mr. Kilby with us.

Having all these obituaries of Mr. Kilby seems to keep him alive in our minds a bit longer...for he will be forever alive in our hearts always.
I wanted to share one more thing about a special memory of Mr. Kilby....It was the end of our Junior Year and Mr. Kilby decided to take myself and a couple of the girls from his BB team to the Wayside Drive-in for a milkshake.....it was a special time of celebration of another season's closure. He went over to the jukebox and played the song "Don't stop believen' " .....and every time I hear that song.....I think of Mr. Kilby....those words ring loudly..Don't stop believen' ....hold on to that feelin'....It taught us to hold on to our dreams and to never stop believing in ourselves....because he never gave up or stopped believing in us....
Thanks for the opportunity to share...

Some friends of mine and I were just talking about Mr. Kilby a week ago and when I heard this news, I was extremely sad. I am so sorry for your loss. He had a positive impact on us softball girls like no other. When I think back to my high school memories, he is one of the strongest and and most influential memories I have. May he rest in peace.

Jill,
It seems like I've known you and Joe forever. You two were definitely connected at the heart. I loved being around because I could feel the absolute love you guys had for each other. Knowing Joe, he kept swinging until he finally crossed home plate on his way to the big one. I was proud to know him and his legacy to his young players will live on forever.

Jill,
We were shocked and so sad when we heard Joe had died. If ever a man could bring a smile and a laugh it was Joe . Larry remembers his many, many boyhood adventures with Joe and all the fun they had; on and on, a wild and crazy time growing up together. He was a tremendous friend who will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Jill.

My thoughts are with you Jill. When I heard the news of Joe's passing I simply could not believe it and It took my breath away. I just want to say that Joe had lived an amazing life even though it was cut very short. He was a great friend and one that stood by you when you need somebody to be there.

I have so many wonderful memories about Joe, on and off the field. Man, the times we had in our dorms back at Tumble Weed Tech. (BBCC). I will miss his sense of humor, smile and laughter.
Joe inspired and influence so many, myself included.

I will forever be grateful to have known him.
Joe has left us in body, but not in soul.
Touch them all Joe. (Gadoodoo)

Jill: My heart goes out to you and your family during this most difficult time. While it's been years since we've talked or seen each other, the mention of Joe's name today brought back alot of great and wonderful memories......from my first meeting and then playing against Joe at the City/County High School Allstar game at Cheney Stadium in 1968, to him and I becoming roomates our freshman year at BBCC in Moses Lake, to many years of being friends and playing softball against each other. Joe was the best and will be terribly missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to have him as a part of our lives. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that Joe's now comfortable and at peace.

Mr. Kilby came into my life when I was in the 8th grade. We were at Jr. High basketball practice and he thought I needed to be toughened up a bit (well, probably knocked down a few pegs!). He brings in this big tough OHS senior named Diane Wise to our practice and her sole assignment is to knock me on my butt! A direct order from Mr. Kilby! "Scheib," he would yell as I was laid out flat on that wonderful old gym floor. "Get up and get tough!" As I became tearful, cussing at him under my breath, little did I know then that he had a plan for me and that he would be a great influence in my life. Mr. Kilby taught me more than how to hit to right field or how to field a ground ball or how to box Diane Wise out on the boards and get the rebound...he taught me about pride, commitment, self worth, teamwork and friendship. I will never forget him. Jill, my thoughts are with you.

I was very sad to hear of Joe's passing. The memories that stand out from the years that we worked together are:
Joe as a perfect Pigpen in our faculty Charlie Brown musicals,
Joe as a golfing buddy who once knocked out one of the local geese with an errant fairway iron, then left his clubs on the course while he picked up the bird and carried it to the clubhouse with a tear in his eye,
Drinking beer from a boot at the Beach House.
rest in Peace Joe.

Mr. Kilby was a man of strength, courage, discipline, and heart. He showed us many lessons on the field that I have applied to my life. He taught us about heart when he had us doing push-ups in the rain and mud while the boys went under cover (and we all knew where both of our seasons would end). He emphasized strength in mind when he showed us to watch our opponents from the dugout before the game started and strategize our game plan from it. We were taught discipline as we hotly ran to "see Fred." He let us own our game as we hung our bats and helmets neatly in the dugout and placed our bases that we could eat off of in their sheaths on the field. He gave us confidence as we took the field, cleared our area of debris, and played our finely-tuned, perfectly practiced game. We were excellent under Mr. Kilby's leading. He invested in us, made us feel worthy, and taught us to be tough. He gave us our game faces and prepared us for game-time situations. He let us experience victory and celebration from a season of hard work. We keep the heart he gave each of us with us in our lives.

Thank you for the gifts you gave us, Mr. Kilby. We keep you with us as we all tell our stories about that incredible season of our lives. We love you!

I was sad to hear of Mr Kilbys passing--he was a great man who brought a smile to everyone he encountered. When I first came into contact with him in the 6th grade he scared the living daylights out of me, but as I grew older I soon realized that the harder he was on you the more he loved you. He was an inspiration to myself and tons of others. He will be missed very much by many. Whenever I think of him and softball, the words "Wiltse, get that piano off your back and run" ring through my head:) Jill-please except my condolanes and know that Mr Kilby is looking down on all of us know and smiling.
