Ferguson, Robert Earl

Robert Earl FERGUSON September 27, 1935~January 22, 2008 Fergie was born in Limon, CO and soon thereafter moved to Denver, where he spent the first 12 years of his life being raised by his beloved dad. When his dad died, Fergie spent 6 months fending for himself on the streets of Denver before being sent to Seattle to live with his much-older half-brother, Jack, who was previously unaware that Fergie even existed. Unfortunately, Jack didn’t show up to meet him and Fergie was allowed to stay for 3 days at the White Rock jail waiting for him. He then lived on Queen Anne hill with Jack and Jack’s wife, Mary. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1953 and then served in the army for three years. He married the love of his life, Alice Williamson, in 1955, and they moved to Bellevue in the 1960s where they raised their family. Fergie earned a degree in business at the UW and later returned for a Masters. After stints at Safeway Stores and the telephone company, he went to work with his good friend, Herb Chaffey, at Wick Homes (now known as The Chaffey Corporation), from which he retired in the mid-1980s. After retiring, Fergie was actively involved with various local charitable organizations and became an enthusiastic senior softball player, manager and coach. He will be remembered as a man who was always true to his word; he could be relied upon at all times; he was highly respected by everyone who knew him and everyone appreciated his great sense of humor. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Alice; his son, Mike and Mike’s wife, Elaine; his daughter, Laura; his grandson, Parker Robert; his dog, Callie; and many many good friends. Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 at Woodinville Community Church, 17110 140th Avenue NE, Woodinville, WA 98072. Published in print on 1/25/2008. NoticeGuest BookFlowersGift ShopCharities

To Alice, "Frog" and Laura,

Julie and I have been away for two weeks and learned only today that "Fergie" passed away. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and will be in the days and weeks ahead. Had we been in town and known, we certainly would have attended the memorial service.

When remembering "Fergie" I think of Indian Guides with "Fergie" and "Frog", Boys Club basketball with "Frog", Westport fishing with "Fergie" and "Frog", Slo-pitch softball with player/coach "Fergie" and our many fun times with your entire family!

What a special peson! We'll miss him!

I met ferg whrough his son Mike, with whom I attended music school. Every time I came to Seattle to visit Mike and Elaine, it usually included some time with Ferg. Whether at his home or at a dinner, Ferg always made me feel like a member of his family. My condolences to his family. Ferg was a great man and a positive force on this earth.

Bob was a great man. I know this because we both shared the same love and feeling for the game of baseball. I know how much Bob enjoyed baseball because out of all the sports that I play Bob came to my baseball games the most.

I hope that Parker can grow up to learn the same passion that Bob had for the game of baseball.

Good bye Bob I will miss you and never forget your love and passion for family, friends and of course baseball.
Good luck to you in your second life.
Love,
Andersen

Bob was a good guy, he was like a grandpa to me. Just like my dad says "the more you love them the more sad you are when they die".
The thing I feel the most sad about is that Parker will not have his grandpa to grow up with but we will be there at all of his basketball, soccer games and of course baseball and we will bring him that certain box of animal crackers for him.
I love you Bob and I know that you will have a good life up in heaven.
Love,
Parson

We are extremely saddened by the passing of a great man and good friend. We will never forget his kindness behind his gruff exterior, or his generosity in giving of himself.

I think the last time I saw Bob was when I was kid but I always remember him as a kind, generous man. Alice, my condolences are with you and your children at this most difficult time.

I am so grateful to have been blessed with Fergie in my life. He was always the patient, fun loving, caring father that loaded up Mike and his friends in the van for concerts, super cross, sporting events, etc. These times created great and priceless memories of growing up. Not only memories, but habits like spitting in a hat when a load of hay drives by... Although Fergie has passed from this world, he will never be forgotten.

I first met Bob formally just last May when my friend Diane and I were having dinner up in South Surrey BC @ the Pacific Aston Hotel where most of the Washington Senior softball teams stayed for the Cinco-de-Mayo tournament. Bob very politely came over to our table and introduced himself, and thanked me for putting up the senior softball website in our Seattle area. I still never forget that encounter and what Diane said as he left for his dinner “what a nice manâ€.
